Operations, Systems & Automation Specialist

Hello, I'm Schalk from Cape Town.
I find where work falls through the cracks & build the systems that catch it.

what i do

diagnose

I sit with a messy situation and find where things are actually falling over, not where people think they are. Current state, desired state, and the gap between them.

cut

Most systems are carrying work that no longer needs doing. I remove the noise before adding anything new.

build

I build the fix and ship it: automations, integrations, workflows, whatever the problem actually needs. Then I hand it over so it runs without me.

compass

the operating system for a whole working life

The system that holds the state so my head does not have to. Sixteen areas, one list, and a way back in that is never a blank page.

The flow welcome screen: the wordmark and its tagline, a quieter place for your DBT practice.

Six places where work fell through the cracks in a one-person practice. I fixed the biggest one first.

how

how i work

My background runs through sales, manufacturing, and service, where coordination, accuracy, and process were the constant thread. Over time I was drawn less to the noise and more to the systems that keep people, work, and decisions aligned.

That interest became personal. My own work had scattered across more tools than I could hold in my head, more energy going into tracking the work than doing it. Coming back to anything meant starting from a blank page.

So I built the system I needed: one home in Notion for every area of my life, a single list of actions, and a re-entry point for where I left off. The tool matters less than what it does: it holds the state so my head does not have to.

That is what I bring to a team. I notice where friction builds, I simplify what has grown complicated, and I leave behind structure that people can trust. The values under the work are reliability, clarity, and thoughtful follow-through.

I bring balance to the chaos, not order to it.
There is a difference.

what i'm looking for

I'm looking for a role where I work alongside other people: operations, systems, process improvement, internal tooling. Somewhere I can learn from a team and contribute from day one. I work relationally. The people and the environment come first; I'm flexible on the task.

If you know someone who is looking for someone like me, I'd be grateful for the introduction.
